We are pleased to announce that we have joined the founders of the programming school kood/Võru!

The school, opening in September, will offer adults innovative IT education in South Estonia. The coding school, which has so far operated in Jõhvi, is expanding to Võru to make it easier for South Estonians to enter the IT sector, gain digital skills, and change careers.

“Supporting new and exciting initiatives in Võru County has always been part of Barrus’ DNA. In addition to various sports-related activities, we can now support an innovative education project that we hope will eventually grow into something significant for the whole Võru County. The kood/Võru team is professional and focused, and we look forward to working with them,” commented Barrus CEO Martti Kork on the cooperation agreement.

The creation of kood/Võru was initially driven by the City of Võru and the Võru County Development Centre, with the goal of promoting digital skills among the region’s residents and offering new educational opportunities.

“It’s great to see that Barrus, which has already made a significant contribution to the county’s development, is lending its support to the launch of kood/Võru. With its support, Barrus is helping to diversify learning opportunities for our people and boost the development of the IT sector in Võru County,” said Tiit Toots, Member of the Board of the Võru County Development Centre.

“With the help of this support, we will be able to offer South Estonians a modern learning experience, including contributing to the furnishing of the learning environment, organizing various events, and enriching the study program with industry case studies,” explained kood/Võru Learning Centre Manager Kätlin Merisalu. “Several jointly planned activities will still remain under wraps for now, to keep the excitement alive for the coming years,” she added.

How to apply and who can study?
kood/Võru will open its doors in mid-September, launching a cross-city class of coding schools, but applications for the next intake are already open. Anyone aged 18 or older with at least a basic education is welcome to apply, regardless of prior IT experience. No state exam results are required for admission—applicants simply need to complete an online logic game. Afterwards, candidates are invited to a three-week entrance bootcamp – the Selection Sprint – during which they take their first steps in programming and participate in weekly exams. Candidates who successfully complete the sprint will be invited to join the full-time studies.
