“The background of the deal is simple and straightforward: the former majority shareholder wanted to divest, and we saw an opportunity – and took it. We believe strongly in Estonian industry as well as in our own experience and capabilities,” said Martti Kork, CEO of Barrus.
“Barrus has long-standing expertise both locally and internationally, and not only in the wood industry. We entered the glass business a few years ago to expand into production areas adjacent to our core operations. This acquisition confirms our intention to continue and further develop that direction,” he added.
According to Kork, the acquisition is a purely financial investment for Barrus. “Both Barrus and Glassense will continue to operate independently – meaning existing brands, employee contracts, customer relationships, and partner agreements will remain unchanged. We will keep moving forward with the same dedication, striving daily to ensure that product quality, employee well-being, and client satisfaction continue on a growth trajectory.”
Kaido Veske, Partner at Livonia Partners, who previously held the majority stake in Glassense, commented: “The acquisition by Barrus is a logical step. Barrus has already been involved in glass manufacturing for some time, and their long-standing experience in the wood sector – combined with their growing know-how in glass – positions them well to take the company even further.”
Glassense’s roots date back to 1997, and today it is the largest manufacturer of insulated glass units, façades, and interior glass solutions in the Baltics and the Nordics. The company has operated under the Glassense name since 2022, following the merger of Klaasimeister and Baltiklaas. At that time, Livonia Partners became the majority shareholder and Barrus AS a minority shareholder.
We wish the entire Glassense team continued success and are confident that their commitment and expertise will lead the company forward with strength and clarity.
In a quarter of a century, Barrus has developed into the largest employer in the region and moves mountains in every sense by contributing to the local community, promoting the local economy with its unique production and protecting the balance of the local natural environment.
