Many people know who we are and have driven past our site countless times over the years, but haven’t had the chance to get to know us up close. That’s why we dedicated the day to the people of Võrumaa — to spend quality time together and offer a deeper look into who we are and what we do.
The people of Võrumaa are incredibly important to Barrus. As an employer of every sixth working person in the county, we see ourselves as a driving force in the local community. We are committed to contributing to the well-being of Võrumaa’s people. We want our home region to thrive, to offer security to its residents, and to ensure our forests remain healthy and strong — we proudly stand for Võrumaa and its people.
Our Community Day had something for everyone — both kids and adults. With over 1,600 visitors, guests had the chance to build birdhouses, children enjoyed magical bubbles and bouncing around on inflatables.
Entertainment came from local dance group Showsteps, and live acoustic music was provided by Hendrik Sal-Saller and Erko Laurimaa. The players from Barrus Võru Volleyball Club also joined in, hosting fun sports games that brought excitement for all ages. Traditional folk games were played, and a raffle gave lucky winners the chance to take home exclusive Barrus souvenirs.
Everyone was treated to homemade soup and pancakes prepared by the Women’s Voluntary Defence Organization (Naiskodukaitse) Võrumaa branch. Fun fact — 1,260 pancakes were cooked that day! At Barrus, we’re committed to zero waste and use 100% of all production materials. In the same spirit, reusable dishware was used at the event to reduce waste and protect the environment.
The most popular activity of the day was the guided factory tours, which ran throughout the event. Nearly 800 people joined the tours!
A particular highlight was a giant wooden elephant made of bogwood by Piret Smagar and Hando Kuntro — the largest wooden sculpture in Estonia.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited us — you are amazing!
